CLIENT PROFILE
The client’s line of business includes producing gasoline, kerosene, distillate fuel oils, residual fuel oils, and lubricants operating in the Midwest since 1919.
Scope of Services Provided
Our organization was contracted by the client to deliver front-end and detail engineering design for the OSBL portion of the project.
Scope of Work
The OBSL capital improvement project encompassed three significant scopes of work. Those elements were a metallurgical upgrade, a larger desalter and the sulfur reducing coker gas, allowing through capabilities of receipt and processing of tar sands.
Results
- OSBL to ISBL interface definition with a third party, with the primary emphasis on process and utility system tie-in definition
- Use of state-of-the-art laser scanning to document existing pipe racks elevations (which our team cost-effectively self-performs)
- Generation of a comprehensive 3D model of the new structural and piping systems
- Significant Piping engineering and design for:
- Aboveground process piping to and from multiple new units
- Replacement piping with modified metallurgical properties
- Utility systems, including infrastructure to support the new units including fuel gas, steam, cooling water, plant air, instrument air, nitrogen, hydrogen and flare
- Stress analysis
- Critical civil/structural engineering and design tasks including, but not limited to:
- Retrofitting / revamping of existing pipe racks, both primary and secondary at multiple levels
- Design of new foundations
- Development of engineering packages for demolition and relocation of various pieces of electrical equipment and instrumentation
